Jonathan to Meet Chibok Parents on Tuesday

After over three months of refusing to visit the parents of the over 250 girls abducted by members of the Boko Haram sect from Chibok in Borno State, the president will on July 22 FINALLY host the girls’ parents.

This was made known by the spokesperson of the Kibaku Chibok Area Development Association, Dauda Iliya, on Wednesday at the Shehu Yar’Adua centre in Abuja. Mr. Iliya said that the association
got a letter of invitation from the presidency on Wednesday morning.

The president’s decision to host the parents is coming only three days after Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenage activist, convinced him to see the parents of girls. PremiumTimes reports Mr. Iliya said:

“We just got the letter at around 11 a.m. this morning from the (Presidential) Villa. it came as a unilateral form of communication.”

Malala Yousafzai Visits President Jonathan, Convinces him to Meet Chibok Parents 3 months after Kidnap

  Pakistani child rights activist, Malala Yousafzat, has finally met with President Goodluck Jonathan. And according to reports, one of the outcomes of her meeting with the President is that finally, he will be visiting the parents of the Chibok girls who are passing through horrifying experience following the abduction of their children over three months ago by the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Malala, who has been in Nigeria to join her voice in the condemnation of the abduction of  the
Nigerian girls, as part of activities to mark her seventeen birthday, said she was hopeful that the girls would be released soon as promised by the President. Adding that President Jonathan had also promised that once the missing girls were rescued, they would be given scholarships to go to school in any part of Nigeria.

Nigerians to start paying to watch televison

Nigeria's Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, at the Extra Ordinary meeting of the National Council of Information held in Abuja few days ago stated that Nigerians will start paying to view television content. As the deadline for Nigeria's migration to digital terrestrial television broadcasting draws near, Nigerian authorities will soon introduce content access fees to replace radio licence fees.
