Aljazeera to launch a 6 part documentary that features Basketmouth on Aug 24th

Premiering on Al Jazeera English on 24 August, My Nigeria is a series of 6 half-hour documentaries that pulse with the energy of Africa’s leading economy telling the human story.

From stand up-comedian Basketmouth to Nollywood star turned politician Kate Henshaw, from ICT expert Gbenga Sesan to fashion designer Deola Sagoe, from football coach Femi Bamigboye to female mechanic Sandra Aguebor, each film focuses on one central character, who invites us into their world, sharing their story in their own words.

“The series was commissioned specifically to support Al Jazeera English’s brand ‘Hear the human story,’ to bring people’s stories directly to our screens, told in in a first-person style without mediation, offering a range of authentic views,” says Ingrid Falck, head of documentaries at Al Jazeera English.

This fake police officer, Olayinka Micheal, was arrested by the Ogun state police command while posing as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to Agodi Area Command, Ibadan, Oyo state on August 10th.

Luck ran out on him after some police officers patrolling Iwo Road shopping Complex Ibadan sighted him trying to effect an arrest. Curious to know what was going on, the police officers approached him and in the course of their discussion, found out he was a fake police officer.

He was immediately arrested. Items found on him included a fake police warrant card and a portrait of the suspect in full police uniform with the rank of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP 1) He is expected to appear in court soon.

Senate President: Buhari Meets APC Leaders, Dump Saraki

President Muhammad Buhari has finally come out to declare his preference for Senator Ahmed Lawan as the new Senate President, according to sources who attended a meeting between the president and members of the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

SR sources said President Buhari disclosed his preference during a critical meeting late last night with the NWC members at Aso Rock.

“The president explained to us that the North Central part of Nigeria has held the Senate Presidency for long enough. He therefore disclosed that the post should be allowed to move to another geo-political zone,”

one source at the meeting told Sahara Reporters.

In pushing for Senator Lawan as the next Senate President, Buhari reportedly stated that, since the North East zone gave the party the second largest number of votes in Nigeria’s recent general elections, the zone should be allowed to produce the premier position at the upper legislative chamber.

Life is forever strange. Jonathan a few days ago became the latest yesterday's man. I watched as he arrived for the very last time with the full pomp and pageantry of the Presidency and literally looked dymistified as he shook the hands of his successor, handing over the baton and stymying slyly into the shadows of history.

I watched him closely as he sat. Trying hard to comport himself and not betraying any emotions knowing fully well that the cameras and indeed the eyes of the whole world would be staring at him. Looking better dressed than the man of the day, his bowler hat perfectly perched on his head with his graying hair, peeping from underneath the bowler hat thanking its stars that it didn't have to come out to share in this perfidy.

What was in Jonathan's mind as he sat down there, enduring the stares and watching the sycophants as they immediately switched allegiances. Baba Obj was behind him, did he feel like turning back and slapping him? Tinubu was way behind, was that why in his walk around he did not get to that part of the cubicle? What would he have done differently if time was rolled back. Would he have ignored Obj?
